The technology described herein is directed towards a broadband (e.g., DC-40 GHz) micro-actuator-based radio frequency (RF) switch, which results in high-isolation by connecting two micro-cantilevers, such as in a back-to-back configuration. This design facilitates highly suitable RF performance, while also reducing the actuation voltage applied to achieve electrostatic operation. The micro-actuator-based switch is thus appropriate for applications that specify high RF signal integrity and low power. The design utilizes through-substrate interconnects to supply actuation power as DC voltage for electrostatic actuation, thereby reducing any DC to RF interference. The micro-actuator-based switch is compact, which along with high isolation and efficient electrostatic actuation, is suitable for integration in advanced RF frontends and reconfigurable networks, including high-density communication environments.
