Enhanced system, method, and devices for processing inaudible tones associated with audio files

A system for inaudible-tone-mediated audience engagement, comprising:

• a transmitting device configured to broadcast, via a broadcast medium, a soundtrack comprising an audible portion and one or more inaudible tones embedded therein, each of the one or more inaudible tones having a frequency that is inaudible to humans and encoding information associated with the audible portion;
• a plurality of receiving devices, each of the plurality of receiving devices comprising:
• a microphone receiving the broadcast soundtrack including the one or more inaudible tones;
• a display;
• a transceiver communicating with a remote server via a wireless network;
• and logic detecting the one or more inaudible tones in the broadcast soundtrack, extracting the information encoded in the one or more inaudible tones, presenting via the display a prompt corresponding to the extracted information while the broadcast soundtrack continues to be received via the microphone, receiving via a user input device a user response to the prompt, and transmitting via the transceiver an indication of the user response to the remote server;
• and
• the remote server receiving the indication of the user response from each of the plurality of receiving devices, aggregating the indications across the plurality of receiving devices, and storing engagement data associated with the broadcast soundtrack based on the aggregated indications.

A method for controlling access to a resource via inaudible tones, comprising:

• broadcasting, by a speaker of a transmitting device, an inaudible tone having a frequency that is inaudible to humans, the inaudible tone encoding identification information;
• receiving, by a microphone of a receiving device positioned within an acoustic propagation range of the transmitting device, the broadcast inaudible tone;
• extracting, by logic of the receiving device, the identification information from the broadcast inaudible tone;
• determining, by the logic of the receiving device, based on the extracted identification information, whether at least one access condition is satisfied;
• and
• selectively granting, limiting, or denying, by the receiving device, access to a resource based on whether the at least one access condition is satisfied, wherein the resource is distinct from playback of an audio file containing the broadcast inaudible tone.
