Adjusting performance of parallel augmented reality experiences

A method performed on a user system, the method comprising:

• launching a native augmented reality (AR) application together with an external AR application on the user system;
• determining that usage of the external AR application transgresses a usage budget for the external AR application, the usage budget based on at least one of an energy budget or a temperature budget;
• and
• in response to determining that the usage of the external AR application transgresses the usage budget for the external AR application, offloading one or more operations of the external AR application from the user system to a companion computing device via a wireless communication link without modifying operation of the native AR application on the user system.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium including instructions that, when processed by a user system, configure the user system to perform operations comprising:

• launching a native augmented reality (AR) application together with an external AR application on the user system;
• determining that usage of the external AR application transgresses a usage budget for the external AR application, the usage budget based on at least one of an energy budget or a temperature budget;
• and
• in response to determining that the usage of the external AR application transgresses the usage budget for the external AR application, offloading one or more operations of the external AR application from the user system to a companion computing device via a wireless communication link without modifying operation of the native AR application on the user system.
