Airway models and sets of airway models capture anatomical morphologies of mouth-throat geometries. The models capture intersubject variability. In addition, a method of predicting deposition of a nebulized hygroscopic aerosol in at least one pediatric oral airway involves determining or receiving one or more airway geometries from the one or more medical images including at least one characteristic dimension of an oral airway and an airway volume; determining or receiving one or more delivery conditions for the nebulized hygroscopic aerosol; calculating multiple nondimensional parameters such as Tidal Volume/airway volume ratio (TV/V), Stokes (Stk) number, Reynolds (Re) number, and Schmidt (Sc) number; and determining deposition in the oral airway using the TV/V, Stk, Re, and Sc numbers.
An airway model, comprising
A set of pediatric and/or adult individual mouth-throat airway models for testing combination pharmaceutical aerosol drug delivery products in terms of regional extrathoracic deposition, wherein the models capture anatomical morphologies of mouth-throat geometries, wherein the models capture intersubject variability.
