A system and method for assisting verbal communication receives a live audio or audio-visual conversation stream, segments the stream into interaction units within a latency-bounded processing window, extracts acoustic, semantic, behavioral, user-interface, device, environmental, and network features, and detects communication-difficulty events. The system may compute contextual coherence metrics, affective risk metrics, and composite conversational risk metrics, generate speaker-directed and listener-directed assistance, render real-time overlays or prompts, enable replay/save/clarification support for corresponding audio blocks, store structured interaction event records with integrity metadata, and update listener-specific thresholds or model parameters based on post-modification outcomes. Additional embodiments include a meeting-to-hearing-device bridge for synchronizing difficult-segment metadata and audio blocks with hearing devices, cochlear implants, and companion applications, and an assistive replay and rehabilitation workflow that provides personalized playback, rehabilitation summaries, and consent-governed remote-care or clinician review.
