Abstract
Systems and methods are provided for controlling access to a building or other restricted physical spaces using at least a facial recognition module. The facial recognition module comprises visible light and infrared detection. In some embodiments, methods are provided for permitting potential entrants to choose whether or not to authorize facial recognition to be performed on them, without compromising overall security.
Claims20
A system for permitting potential entrants into at least a building or other physical space at a controlled access point that comprises a facial recognition module to permit or reject use of facial recognition on a user, the system comprising:
- a facial recognition module, said facial recognition module comprising at least a visible light sensor, at least an infrared sensor, and an infrared emitter and at least a microprocessor;
- an enclosure of the facial recognition module comprises at least a front face with the visible light sensor, the infrared sensor, and the infrared emitter mounted proximately to the front face such that the visible light sensor and the infrared sensor are capable of recording images from an area beyond the front face, and the infrared emitter is capable of projecting infrared light to the area beyond the front face;
- at least a database of permitted entrants into at least said building or other physical space, the database comprising one or more records regarding each permitted entrant, wherein the database is stored on at least a server;
- an entrant identifier device including at least one of the group consisting of a badge reader, one or more microphones, a key pad, or a touchpad;
- an alphanumeric code that is transmitted to a digital device controlled by a potential enrollee, wherein the alphanumeric code is entered into the entrant identifier device;
- a digital form that is transmitted to the digital device, the digital form configured to permit a potential enrollee to permit or deny permission to perform facial recognition on the potential enrollee;
- and
- the potential enrollee choosing to either allow facial recognition to be performed on the potential enrollee or to deny permission for facial recognition to be performed on the potential enrollee.
A method for controlling access to a building or other area, said method comprising:
- a potential entrant to a building or other area approaching a controlled entry point of said building or area, where the controlled entry point comprises at least a facial recognition module;
- prompting the potential entrant to perform a specific physical gesture, such as waving a hand;
- determining whether the potential entrant has performed the specific physical gesture;
- performing facial recognition on the potential entrant if the potential entrant has performed the specific physical gesture;
- and p1 not performing facial recognition if the potential entrant if the potential entrant has not performed the specific physical gesture.
