Abstract
Systems and methods are provided for controlling access to a building or other restricted physical spaces using at least a facial recognition module. The facial recognition module comprises visible light and infrared detection. In some embodiments, methods are provided for permitting potential entrants to choose whether or not to authorize facial recognition to be performed on them, without compromising overall security.
Claims20
A method for controlling access to a building or other area, said method comprising:
- prompting a potential entrant to a building or other area to scan a badge comprising a unique identifier;
- determining based upon a database whether the badge is associated with a user who has previously opted into use of facial recognition for control of entry to said building or other area;
- performing facial recognition with a facial recognition module on said potential entrant if the database confirms that the potential entrant has opted into the use of facial recognition for entry to said building or other area;
- not performing facial recognition on said potential entrant if the database confirms that the potential entrant has opted out of the use of facial recognition for entry to said building or other area;
- and
- prompting said potential entrant to provide an alternate form of identification.
A method for enrolling authorized entrants into an access control system for controlling access to a building or other area that includes at least a facial recognition module and at least one of a badge reader, voice recognition, speech recognition, or a touchpad or keypad for entering alphanumeric inputs, said method comprising:
- sending a message containing an alphanumeric code to a mobile device comprising at least a camera capable of capturing an image of a face of a user and believed to be associated with a specific user;
- receiving from the mobile device the alphanumeric code;
- transmitting to the mobile device a consent form giving the user a option of agreeing or not agreeing to use of facial recognition for purposes of determining whether to admit the user to the building or other area for which the access control system controls access;
- receiving from the user the consent form denying or granting consent to the use of facial recognition for purposes of determining whether to admit the user to the building or other area for which the access control system controls access;
- receiving from the user at least an image of the face of the user if the user has consented to use of facial recognition for purposes of determining whether to admit the user to the building or other area for which the access control system controls access;
- using facial recognition for purposes of determining whether to admit the user to the building or other area for which the access control system controls access if the user has consented;
- and
- not using facial recognition and using at least one of a badge reader, voice recognition, speech recognition or a touchpad or keypad for entering alphanumeric inputs for purposes of determining whether to admit the user to the building or other area for which the access control system controls access if the user has not consented.
