Provided is a system and method for associating a digital credential with a person at an entryway using said low power replacement sensor device for legacy Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) door readers. Said system is a low power replacement sensor device for legacy Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) door readers. Said method comprises detecting at least one physical person via a radar, LiDAR, or camera sensor; tracking motion vectors to determine intent toward the entryway of said at least one physical person; establishing a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) channel sounding session with at least mobile handset or other authenticating digital credential; obtaining relative distance measurements from said BLE channel sounding session; correlating changes in the relative distance between the radar-tracked motion of said at least one physical person; determining which individual corresponds to said mobile handset or other authenticating digital credential; and granting or denying access based on the determination.
