Some embodiments relate to a dissection apparatus including a dissection tool for dissecting biological material from an identified region of interest within a tissue sample disposed on a slide. The apparatus is equipped with a light source for illuminating the tissue sample and an imaging module, including an image sensor and an image processor, which is configured to capture a first image of the tissue sample prior to dissection, and to register an annotated boundary of the ROI onto the first image. The annotated boundary can be identified from a reference image of a corresponding reference sample. The imaging module is further configured to capture a second image of the tissue sample after dissection, whereby the image processor is programmed with an algorithm.
