Abstract
Systems and methods for sending targeted items in a delivery network. Items can be targeted to geographical areas or routes based on attributes or criteria of the delivery points in the geographical areas or routes.
Claims20
A method for sorting items, the method comprising:
- storing, by one or more processors, campaign information identifying a set of delivery points selected to receive distribution items of an distribution item campaign;
- receiving, in a distribution network, the plurality of distribution items of the distribution item campaign;
- scanning, by item processing equipment, an addressed item having delivery point information;
- determining, by the one or more processors, a destination delivery point for the scanned addressed item based on the delivery point information;
- routing, by the item processing equipment, the addressed item to a sort location associated with the destination delivery point;
- determining, by the one or more processors, whether the destination delivery point of the scanned addressed item is in the set of delivery points selected to receive the distribution items;
- when the destination delivery point is included in the set of delivery points selected to receive the distribution items, routing, by the item processing equipment, one of the received plurality of the distribution item to the sort location associated with the destination delivery point;
- and
- updating a delivery point record associated with the destination delivery point to indicate assignment of the non-addressed saturation item to the destination delivery point.

A system for sorting items, the system comprising:
- item processing equipment of a distribution network;
- and
- one or more processors configured to:
- store campaign information identifying a set of delivery points selected to receive distribution items of a distribution item campaign;
- cause the item processing equipment to scan an addressed item having delivery point information;
- determine a destination delivery point for the scanned addressed item based on the delivery point information;
- cause the item processing equipment to route the scanned addressed item to a sort location associated with the destination delivery point;
- determine whether the destination delivery point of the scanned addressed item is included in the set of delivery points selected to receive the distribution items;
- when the destination delivery point is included in the set of delivery points selected to receive the distribution items, cause the item processing equipment to route the distribution item to the sort location associated with the destination delivery point;
- and
- update a delivery point record associated with the destination delivery point to indicate assignment of the distribution item to the destination delivery point.
