A method and system for anomaly detection from time-series input data. Time-series data for joint parameters of a robot operation is periodically collected over the robot's service interval. For each data collection event, the time-series data is segmented to retain only a range of interest where the joint speed is zero. Autoregressive model fitting is performed on the retained time-series data using a low-order model. The measured parameter data is then compared to the model-fitted data, resulting in an error value at each time-series data point. An error metric is computed from the time-series error values, and an alarm is issued when the error metric exceeds a predefined threshold. The error metric provides a reliable early indication of initial stages of joint degradation—far earlier than the joint exhibits any other signs of impending problems.
