Method and system for addressing the problem of discovering relevant services and applications that are available over the internet or other communcations network

A method for providing information to a user device in response to a user query, the method comprising:

• deconstructing each of a plurality of webpages to generate a plurality of snippets, each snippet being generated from a portion of the content of a corresponding webpage;
• assigning a ranking value to the snippets;
• assigning a relevance value to the snippets based on the query;
• selecting one or more snippets based on the ranking value and the relevance value;
• constructing a snippets page from the selected snippets;
• and
• serving the snippets page to the user device.

A system for providing information to a user device in response to a user query, the system comprising:

• a server comprising a processor;
• and
• a non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions stored thereon, that when executed on the processor, perform the steps of:
• deconstructing each of a plurality of webpages to generate a plurality of snippets, each snippet being generated from a portion of the content of a corresponding webpage;
• assigning a ranking value to the snippets;
• assigning a relevance value to the snippets based on the query;
• selecting one or more snippets based on the ranking value and the relevance value;
• constructing a snippets page from the selected snippets;
• and
• serving the snippets page to the user device.
