Enhanced mechanisms for managing multidimensional data

A system comprising:

• an interface configured to receive a non-collaborative spreadsheet lacking collaborative capabilities, version management capabilities, and cell modification tracking capabilities, wherein the interface is further configured to receive user-selected entries identifying dimensions and timescale of the non-collaborative spreadsheet, wherein the non-collaborative spreadsheet is imported as-is without modification;
• a processor configured to generate both a collaborative output spreadsheet and a multidimensional data structure from the non-collaborative spreadsheet based on the user-selected entries, wherein the collaborative output spreadsheet includes collaborative capabilities allowing a plurality of users to simultaneously work together on the collaborative output spreadsheet;
• and
• memory configured to maintain a bi-directional mapping between the collaborative output spreadsheet and the multidimensional data structure, wherein upon receiving a change to the collaborative output spreadsheet, the collaborative output spreadsheet is modified according to the change and the multidimensional data structure is modified according to the bi-directional mapping, and wherein upon receiving a change to the multidimensional data structure, the multidimensional data structure is modified according to the change and the collaborative output spreadsheet is modified according to the bi-directional mapping.

A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor perform operations comprising:

• importing a non-collaborative spreadsheet lacking collaborative capabilities, version management capabilities, and cell modification tracking capabilities;
• receiving user-selected entries identifying dimensions and timescale of the non-collaborative spreadsheet, wherein the non-collaborative spreadsheet is imported as-is without modification;
• generating both a collaborative output spreadsheet and a multidimensional data structure , from the non-collaborative spreadsheet based on the user-selected entries, wherein the collaborative output spreadsheet includes collaborative capabilities allowing a plurality of users to simultaneously work together on the collaborative output spreadsheet;
• and
• maintaining a bi-directional mapping between the collaborative output spreadsheet and the multidimensional data structure, wherein upon receiving a change to the collaborative output spreadsheet, the collaborative output spreadsheet is modified according to the change and the multidimensional data structure is modified according to the bi-directional mapping, and wherein upon receiving a change to the multidimensional data structure, the multidimensional data structure is modified according to the change and the collaborative output spreadsheet is modified according to the bi-directional mapping.
