Serial communication collision abatement hardware

A method for transmitting serial data onto a communication bus having a half-duplex bus topology, the method comprising:

• determining, by a collision management circuit, a bus busy signal indicative of a state of the communication bus;
• providing, by the collision management circuit, the bus busy signal to an enable pin of a controller;
• and
• transmitting, by a transmit pin of the controller, data onto the communication bus via a transmit line based at least in part on the bus busy signal.

A control system for an appliance, comprising:

• a communication bus having a half-duplex bus topology;
• and
• a plurality of nodes communicatively coupled to the communication bus, one or more nodes of the plurality of nodes comprising:
• a controller;
• and
• a collision management circuit operably coupled to an enable pin of the controller and the communication bus, the collision management circuit configured to provide a bus busy signal to the enable pin of the controller based at least in part on a state of the communication bus,
• wherein the controller is configured to transmit data onto the communication bus based at least in part on the bus busy signal.
