Providing visual feedback during a startup recovery process

A non-transitory machine-readable medium having instructions stored therein, which when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations for managing operation of a data processing system, the operations comprising:

• identifying, by a management controller of the data processing system, an occurrence of an undesired startup event during a booting of the data processing system using first startup data in a boot storage device of hardware resources of the data processing system;
• based on the identifying:
• initiating, by the management controller, performance of a startup data recovery process to place the data processing system in a desired operating state;
• while the startup data recovery process is performed:
• initiating, by the management controller, operation of a visual display system using a side band channel to provide visual feedback to a user of the data processing system regarding a status of the startup data recovery process;
• and
• providing, by the data processing system and while in the desired operating state, computer-implemented services.

A system, comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a memory coupled to the processor to store instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations for managing operation of a data processing system, the operations comprising:
• identifying, by a management controller of the data processing system, an occurrence of an undesired startup event during a booting of the data processing system using first startup data in a boot storage device of hardware resources of the data processing system;
• based on the identifying:
• initiating, by the management controller, performance of a startup data recovery process to place the data processing system in a desired operating state;
• while the startup data recovery process is performed:
• initiating, by the management controller, operation of a visual display system using a side band channel to provide visual feedback to a user of the data processing system regarding a status of the startup data recovery process;
• and
• providing, by the data processing system and while in the desired operating state, computer-implemented services.
