An example processor includes a first functional unit in a scalar data path; a second functional unit and a set of vector registers coupled to the second functional unit in a vector data path; a first instruction decode stage to decode a first type of instructions and a second type of instructions and identify which of the first functional unit and the second functional perform an operation; and a second instruction decode stage coupled to the first instruction decode stage, wherein an instruction of the second type is decoded in the second instruction decode stage to read operands from the set of vector registers. The processor is to execute the instruction of the second type to cause the second functional unit to classify each value of multiple floating-point values stored in corresponding lanes of a first vector register and perform a store operation in a second vector register with respect to classification results.
