A system and method for identifying and resolving abnormal dependencies within a software application. The system detects dependencies not declared within a package manager manifest and applies a semantic hash code algorithm to extract measured characteristics of each abnormal dependency. A semantic hash code value, representing a coordinate position within a multi-dimensional vector space, is determined from the extracted characteristics. The semantic hash code value and an association with the abnormal dependency are stored in a data repository containing associations for different source code instances. To identify the abnormal dependency, stored associations having semantic hash code values proximate to the abnormal dependency’s value in the vector space are retrieved, and supplemental information including origin, version, or licensing data is obtained for a found source code instance. A software component corresponding to the abnormal dependency is then incorporated during a software application build/binding procedure based on the obtained supplemental information.
