Methods and systems for selecting and controlling smart devices

A system comprising:

• input/output circuitry configured to:
• receive an input at a first device;
• processing circuitry configured to:
• emit, from the first device during a first time period, a first directional signal having a first spatial signal profile;
• emit, from the first device during a second time period, a second directional signal having a second spatial signal profile, wherein the first spatial signal profile and the second spatial signal profile are different;
• identify, based at least in part on receiving a first indication from a second device, that the second device that has received the first directional signal emitted during the first time period and has received the second directional signal emitted during the second time period, wherein the first indication is based at least in part on a first analysis of the received first directional signal and the received second directional signal;
• identify, based at least in part on receiving a second indication from a third device, that the third device that has not received the first directional signal emitted during the first time period and has received the second directional signal emitted during the second time period, wherein the second indication is based at least in part on a second analysis of the second directional signal;
• generate, based at least in part on the identifying the second device and the identifying the third device, a user interface element;
• and
• the input/output circuitry is further configured to:
• output, at the first device, the generated user interface element.
