Abstract
A method may deposit a decorative and/or protective coating on a substrate to form an item. Such a method may include: (a) depositing a first opaque layer on the substrate; and (b) depositing, by atomic layer deposition, a stack including a first semi-transparent layer and a first semi-transparent layer, covering the first opaque layer, adjusting a thickness of the stack so as to obtain a color with an interference phenomenon to thereby color the substrate. The stack may have a thickness depending on the color based on an interference phenomenon of the coating.
Claims20
A method for depositing a decorative and/or protective coating on a substrate to form an item, the method comprising:
- (a) depositing a first opaque layer on the substrate;
- and
- (b) depositing, by atomic layer deposition, a stack comprising a first semi-transparent layer and a first semi-transparent layer, covering the first opaque layer, adjusting a thickness of the stack so as to obtain a color with an interference phenomenon to thereby color the substrate.
