Abstract

A transportation device includes a transportation member that transports a medium in a transportation direction, a reciprocating mechanism that reciprocates in the transportation direction and that moves at a speed lower than a transportation speed of the medium transported by the transportation member in a case where the reciprocating mechanism moves to a downstream side, an abutting member that is supported by the reciprocating mechanism and that switches between an abutment position at which the medium abuts against the abutting member on a transportation path of the medium and a withdrawal position to which the abutting member withdraws from the transportation path after the abutting member passes through a predetermined first position, a restricting member that restricts the medium, of which a leading end abuts against the abutting member, from being separated from the transportation path, and a switching unit that causes the abutting member to switch to the withdrawal position in a case where the medium is jammed on the transportation path.
