Abstract

An image forming apparatus includes an electrophotographic photoreceptor that has a photosensitive layer on a conductive substrate, the electrophotographic photoreceptor including an undercoat layer containing a metal oxide on the conductive substrate, a charge generation layer containing a metal element provided on the undercoat layer, and a charge transport layer provided on the charge generation layer, a charging device that charges the electrophotographic photoreceptor by applying an alternating current using a charging roll, a direct transfer roll, and a recording medium peeling member that peels a recording medium from the direct transfer roll, in which a resistance value of the undercoat layer is 6.0 log Ω·m or more and 9.5 log Ω·m or less, and a current density of the electrophotographic photoreceptor at 40 V/μm is 0.012 μA/cm2 or more and 0.030 μA/cm2 or less.
