Abstract
A head-wearable extended reality (XR) device includes a display arrangement. The display arrangement has a display to display virtual content, and also has one or more optical elements to direct the virtual content along an optical path to an eye of a user of the XR device. The virtual content is presented in a virtual content field of view. The display arrangement further includes an adjustment mechanism to alter the optical path so as to adjust the virtual content field of view between at least two display modes.
Claims20
A head-wearable extended reality (XR) device comprising:
- a display to display virtual content;
- an adjustment mechanism to rotate one or more optical elements to redirect light from the display to cause display of an elliptical field of view, wherein the adjustment mechanism provides feedback data to indicate one or more current rotational positions of the one or more optical elements;
- and
- a synchronization system to receive the feedback data and to render the virtual content on the display to be aligned with the one or more optical elements as the one or more optical elements are rotated, wherein the synchronization system adjusts rendering of the virtual content based on the one or more current rotational positions.
A display arrangement for a head-wearable extended reality (XR) device, the display arrangement comprising:
- a display to display virtual content;
- an adjustment mechanism to rotate one or more optical elements to redirect light from the display to cause display of an elliptical field of view, wherein the adjustment mechanism provides feedback data to indicate one or more current rotational positions of the one or more optical elements;
- and
- a synchronization system to receive the feedback data and to render the virtual content on the display to be aligned with the one or more optical elements as the one or more optical elements are rotated, wherein the synchronization system adjusts rendering of the virtual content based on the one or more current rotational positions.
A method performed by a head-wearable extended reality (XR) device, the method comprising:
- displaying, by a display of the head-wearable XR device, virtual content;
- rotating, by an adjustment mechanism of the head-wearable XR device, one or more optical elements to redirect light from the display to cause display of an elliptical field of view;
- providing, by the adjustment mechanism, feedback data to indicate one or more current rotational positions of the one or more optical elements;
- receiving, by a synchronization system of the head-wearable XR device, the feedback data;
- rendering, by the synchronization system, the virtual content on the display to be aligned with the one or more optical elements as the one or more optical elements are rotated;
- and
- adjusting, by the synchronization system, the rendering of the virtual content based on the one or more current rotational positions.
