Circuit arrangement and method for the excitation of impedance spectroscopy in multicellular batteries

A system comprising:

• a battery, wherein the battery comprises a plurality of battery cells;
• a plurality of switching elements coupled to the battery, wherein each switching element of the plurality of switching elements is arranged in parallel with at least one battery cell of the plurality of battery cells;
• a controller circuit coupled to the plurality of switching elements, wherein the controller circuit is configured to:
• switch on, at corresponding switch-on times of a predetermined time period, the plurality of switching elements, thereby generating a current signal through the battery, wherein switch-on times are determined by the controller circuit;
• measure a voltage signal over the battery;
• and
• determine an impedance of the battery based on the measured voltage signal and the generated current signal.
