Abstract
Disclosed herein is the identification of the biomarker, BCL11B, in breast cancer, which is associated with an increased risk of relapse after chemotherapy. In an embodiment, a method of identifying a subset of breast cancer patients at high risk of developing chemotherapy resistance is provided, the method comprising determining the prevalence of BCL11B expression in a population of breast cancer cells, where higher levels of BCL11B expressing cells identify an individual with a higher risk of resistance when receiving chemotherapy. Individuals may be treated accordingly to decrease the risk of relapse.
Claims18
A method for identifying an individual with breast cancer having increased risk of developing resistance to chemotherapy, the method comprising:
- determining the prevalence of BCL11B expression in a sample population of breast cancer cells from the individual, where a prevalence of greater than about 10% BCL11B+ cells in the population identifies an individual with a higher risk of developing resistance when receiving chemotherapy.
