Abstract
The present invention relates to a biosensor capable of determining whether the sample addition amount is sufficient. The biosensor at least comprises an insulating substrate, a working electrode and a fill detection electrode. The fill detection electrode is further away from the sample supply port of the biosensor than the working electrode, and the fill detection electrode is not in contact with a sample supply channel. The biosensor of the present invention can determine whether the sample amount added to the biosensor meets detection requirements, which effectively avoids the risk of insufficient sample amount and ensures the accuracy of test results.
Claims20
A biosensor comprising:
- an insulating substrate,
- a sample supply channel disposed on the insulating substrate, the sample supply channel comprising a proximal end, a distal end, a pair of opposed lateral side walls, and a sample supply port at the proximal end, wherein the sample supply channel is configured and adapted to receive a sample at the sample supply port and to transport the sample by capillary force from the proximal end toward the distal end along a flow axis,
- a working electrode disposed on the insulating substrate and exposed within the sample supply channel,
- a fill detection electrode disposed on the insulating substrate and exposed within the sample supply channel, wherein the fill detection electrode is disposed further from the sample supply port than the working electrode along the flow axis, wherein the fill detection electrode comprises a head region and a tail region, the head region being proximate to the sample supply port relative to the tail region and extending laterally within the sample supply channel to a greater lateral width than the tail region,
- a reagent layer covering at least the working electrode,
- wherein each lateral end of the head region of the fill detection electrode is spaced from the adjacent lateral side wall of the sample supply channel by a gap such that the head region does not contact either lateral side wall, and
- wherein said gap is configured and adapted to prevent contact between a liquid front advancing along the lateral side walls of the sample supply channel and the fill detection electrode when the volume of sample present in the sample supply channel is insufficient to completely cover the working electrode.
