A sensor element for measuring thermal properties of a fluid medium includes a membrane, a cover and a frame surrounding the membrane on at least two sides. The membrane is separated from the frame in regions by recesses, is self-supporting, and is supported by the frame via strips, with the sensor element having at least one electrical resistance element on the frame and an electrical heating element on the membrane. The electrical heating element is electrically contacted via connecting conductor paths running from the frame via at least one of the strips to the membrane. The frame has an electrical heating element on the frame, which surrounds the at least one electrical resistance element on the outside on at least two sides.
