Rapid x-ray radiation imaging system and related method

An X-ray radiation imaging system for imaging a plurality of untested cast resin transformers, the X-ray radiation imaging system comprising:

• a transformer imaging device comprising
• an enclosure defining an opening and being opaque to X-ray radiation,
• at least one X-ray source within the enclosure and configured to irradiate a given cast resin transformer with X-ray radiation around a periphery of the given cast resin transformer,
• at least one X-ray detector adjacent to the given cast resin transformer, the at least one X-ray detector to receive the X-ray radiation from the given cast resin transformer,
• a gantry within the enclosure and coupled to the at least one X-ray source and the at least one X-ray detector,
• at least one detector arm coupled between the gantry and the at least one X-ray detector,
• at least one source arm coupled between the gantry and the at least one X-ray source, and
• a processor coupled to the at least one X-ray source and the at least one X-ray detector and configured to
• cause the at least one detector arm and the at least one source arm to respectively align the at least one X-ray detector and the at least one X-ray source with respect to the given cast resin transformer, and
• generate an image of coils of the given cast resin transformer;
• and
• a transformer transportation device configured to
• move the given cast resin transformer from the plurality of untested cast resin transformers through the opening and into the transformer imaging device, and
• after imaging, move the given cast resin transformer from the transformer imaging device and into a plurality of tested cast resin transformers.

A method for operating an X-ray radiation imaging system for imaging a plurality of untested cast resin transformers, the X-ray radiation imaging system comprising a transformer transportation device, and a transformer imaging device, the transformer imaging device comprising an enclosure defining an opening, at least one X-ray source within the enclosure and configured to irradiate a given cast resin transformer with X-ray radiation around a periphery of the given cast resin transformer, at least one X-ray detector adjacent to the given cast resin transformer, the at least one X-ray detector to receive the X-ray radiation from the given cast resin transformer, and a gantry within the enclosure and coupled to the at least one X-ray source and the at least one X-ray detector, the method comprising:

• operating a processor in the transformer imaging device, the processor coupled to the at least one X-ray source and the at least one X-ray detector and generating an image of coils of the given cast resin transformer;
• and
• operating the transformer transportation device to
• move the given cast resin transformer from the plurality of untested cast resin transformers through the opening and into the transformer imaging device, and
• after imaging, move the given cast resin transformer from the transformer imaging device and into a plurality of tested cast resin transformers.
