Sabot

A sabot for a subcaliber projectile or a kinetic energy projectile, the sabot comprising:

• at least two sabot segments that adjoin each other in a circumferential direction and that each have a front part with respect to a firing direction, as a push part, and a rear part with respect to the firing direction, as a pull part;
• a pressure flange arranged between the push part and the pull part, wherein the sabot and the sabot segments have a front terminal region with respect to the firing direction and a rear terminal region with respect to the firing direction;
• struts extending in the firing direction, the struts extending between the front terminal region with respect to the firing direction and the pressure flange and between the rear terminal region with respect to the firing direction and the pressure flange;
• recesses formed in the front part and the rear part of the sabot segments, the recesses being open radially outward, the recesses being arranged consecutively in the circumferential direction and delimited by the struts;
• and
• a front terminal strut region of each of the struts in the front part of the sabot segments runs radially outward and integrally transitions into an externally cylindrical ring element segment and holds and supports the ring element segment,
• wherein the ring element segments adjoin each other in the circumferential direction and form a ring element, and
• wherein the ring element has through-openings that extend in the firing direction and are located between the struts with respect to the circumferential direction.
