Abstract
A system for cutting ice comprises a first sliding table, a first pushing arm, a first saw guide, a first saw, a second sliding table, a second pushing arm, a second saw guide, and a second saw. The first sliding table allows an ice sheet to translate thereover. The first pushing arm advances the ice sheet along the first sliding table in a first direction. The first saw guide is disposed above the first sliding table and extends along a first cutting path transverse to the first direction. The second pushing arm advances the ice rods along the second sliding table in a second direction at an angle to the first direction.

A system for cutting ice, comprising:
- a first sliding table configured to allow an ice sheet to translate thereover;
- a first pushing arm configured to advance the ice sheet along the first sliding table in a first direction;
- a first saw guide disposed above the first sliding table and extending along a first cutting path transverse to the first direction;
- a first saw translatably coupled to the first saw guide, the first saw configured to translate horizontally along the first saw guide and laterally across the first sliding table to form a plurality of separated elongated ice rods;
- a second sliding table configured to allow the plurality of separate elongated ice rods to translate thereover;
- a second pushing arm configured to advance the plurality of separated elongated ice rods along the second sliding table in a second direction at an angle to the first direction;
- a second saw guide disposed above the second sliding table and extending along a second cutting path transverse to the second direction;
- and
- a second saw translatably coupled to the second saw guide, the second saw configured to translate horizontally along the second saw guide and laterally across the second sliding table to cut the plurality of separated elongated ice rods along one or more second cut lines and thereby form a plurality of ice blocks.
A method of cutting ice, comprising:
- providing an ice sheet on a first sliding table;
- advancing the ice sheet along the first sliding table in a first direction;
- cutting entirely through the ice sheet along one or more first cut lines by translating a first saw horizontally along a first saw guide and laterally across the first sliding table to form a plurality of separated elongated ice rods;
- positioning the plurality of separated elongated ice rods for advancement along a second sliding table in a second direction at an angle to the first direction;
- advancing the plurality of separated elongated ice rods along the second sliding table in the second direction;
- and
- cutting the plurality of separated elongated ice rods along one or more second cut lines transverse to the second direction by translating a second saw horizontally along a second saw guide and laterally across the second sliding table to form a plurality of ice blocks.
