Abstract
The modular stackable light fixtures of the present invention include collars, shades, and diffusers that allow users to construct or reconfigure cost-effective modular light fixtures. A modular light fixture can include a collar with one or more indexes and a receiving element within the neck of the shade. The neck features receiving elements that engage the indexes, and a retention mechanism locks the shade and collar in place. The shades can have various geometries and may include baffles, inner shells, and coupling elements.
Claims20
A modular light fixture comprising:
- a collar comprising one or more indexes that protrude outward and radially;
- a shade comprising a neck defining an opening that receives the collar;
- a diffuser disposed within an internal volume of the shade;
- and
- a retention mechanism that resists rotation of the collar relative to the shade,
- wherein:
- the neck comprises one or more receiving elements that engage the one or more indexes upon relative rotational movement between the collar and the shade, and
- the collar comprises a coupling mechanism to engage the diffuser and to retain the diffuser within the internal volume of the shade.
A shade for use in modular light fixtures comprising:
- one or more external baffles that extend from a first end of the shade to a second end of the shade, wherein each of the one or more external baffles comprises an interior edge and an outer edge;
- an inner shell that engages the interior edge of the one or more external baffles;
- and
- a neck disposed at the first end of the shade, wherein the neck defines an opening into an internal volume of the shade;
- wherein:
- the neck comprises one or more receiving elements that recess into the inner shell;
- and
- the outer edge of the one or more external baffles forms an outermost perimeter of the shade.
A collar for use in a modular light fixture comprising:
- a body having an upper surface and a lower surface;
- one or more walls that extend from the lower surface of the body and define a central opening;
- one or more apertures that extend through the body between the upper surface and the lower surface;
- one or more indexes that extend radially from the one or more walls;
- and
- a central support structure disposed within the central opening,
- wherein the one or more indexes are configured to engage corresponding receiving elements of a shade upon relative rotational movement between the collar and the shade to resist axial separation.
