Chamfer ring for pipe coupling

A method of connecting a pipe to a pipe coupling, the method comprising:

• preassembling an insertion sleeve on a stiffener of the pipe coupling, wherein the insertion sleeve includes a leading end and a trailing end, the leading end including an internal chamfer and the trailing end includes a radial surface;
• moving a pipe into contact with the radial surface and forcing the insertion sleeve to move along the stiffener;
• wherein the internal chamfer allows the insertion sleeve and the pipe to move past an O-ring coupled to the stiffener without moving the O-ring.

A method of connecting a pipe to a pipe coupling, the method comprising:

• preassembling an insertion sleeve on a stiffener of the pipe coupling proximate to a groove that receives an O-ring, wherein the insertion sleeve includes a body having an outer surface and an opening passing through the body, wherein the opening includes a first region with a constant inner diameter and a second region with a varying diameter, wherein a maximum diameter of the second region is greater than the constant inner diameter;
• moving a pipe into contact with an end surface of the body and forcing the insertion sleeve to move along the stiffener;
• wherein the second region allows the insertion sleeve and the pipe to move past the O-ring coupled to the stiffener without moving the O-ring out of the groove.
