Abstract
The disclosed technology relates generally to systems and methods for mitigating valve-related single point vulnerabilities. The disclosed technology includes a system including a first valve positioner and a second valve positioner, both connected to a valve actuator of a valve. The first valve positioner includes an on-board diagnostic system configured to generate an alert. The system includes a positioner swapping system configured to redirect an input pressure of the valve actuator from the first valve positioner to the second valve positioner. The input pressure of the valve actuator is redirected based at least in part on the alert generated by the on-board diagnostic system.
Claims20
A system for mitigating valve-related single point vulnerabilities comprising:
- a first valve positioner connected to a valve actuator of a valve, the first valve positioner comprising an on-board diagnostic system configured to generate an alert;
- a second valve positioner connected to the valve actuator;
- and
- a positioner swapping system configured to redirect an input pressure of the valve actuator from the first valve positioner to the second valve positioner based at least in part on the alert.
A system for mitigating valve-related single point vulnerabilities comprising:
- a valve actuator configured to operate a valve;
- a first valve positioner connected to the valve actuator and configured to alter valve travel of the valve, the first valve positioner comprising a first on-board diagnostic system configured to generate a first alert;
- a second valve positioner connected to the valve actuator and configured to alter valve travel of the valve, the second valve positioner comprising a second on-board diagnostic system configured to generate a second alert;
- and
- a positioner swapping system comprising a solenoid valve configured to swap an input pressure of the valve actuator from the first valve positioner to the second valve positioner based at least in part on at least one of the first alert and the second alert.
A method for mitigating valve-related single point vulnerabilities comprising:
- generating an alert signal from an on-board diagnostic system of one of a primary valve positioner and a backup valve positioner, the primary valve positioner and the backup valve positioner being connected to a valve actuator of a valve;
- and
- redirecting an input pressure of the valve actuator from one of the primary valve positioner and the backup valve positioner to the other of the primary valve positioner and the backup valve positioner based at least in part on the alert signal.
