Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a rod handling device configured to be mounted on a mast of a drill rig, the rod handling device including a boom configured to be rotatably mounted on the mast, a first set of actuators configured to rotate the boom about a first axis of rotation A1 perpendicular to a longitudinal axis LM of the mast, and about a second axis of rotation A2 perpendicular to a longitudinal axis L of the boom, and a rod gripper assembly being rotatably attached to the boom about a third axis of rotation A3 perpendicular to the longitudinal axis L of the boom, wherein the rod gripper assembly includes at least one mechanical gripper, the rod gripper assembly being configured to releasably grip a drill rod.
