A rain deflector apparatus includes a plurality of panels configured to telescope relative to one another to adjust an overall width of the apparatus. Each panel includes a main body having a front face, a back face, and edges defining a bottom seal portion and a top sealing surface portion. The panels include mating features configured to constrain relative movement while permitting longitudinal translation between the panels. One or more attachment mechanisms are disposed on the panels and configured to secure the apparatus to a structure. When installed, the bottom seal portion and the top sealing surface portion are configured to engage corresponding surfaces to reduce intrusion of water by diverting water and debris away from an opening. In embodiments, a retention device includes a shaft portion insertable into an extruded mounting portion and a head portion configured to retain an accessory.
