Prefabricated tiling system and method

A system for tiling a surface comprising:

• a plurality tiling assemblies, each tiling assembly comprising:
• a tiling body having a front surface, a back surface, a depth between the front and back surfaces and a peripheral edge extending around at least one edge of the tiling body to define a periphery thereof;
• a waterproof barrier membrane secured to the back surface of the tiling material, the membrane having a perimeter edge,
• wherein the perimeter edge of the barrier membrane extends beyond at least one side of the peripheral edge of the tiling body by an overlap distance, and
• wherein the membrane is adherable to a tiling adhesive applied to the wall surface to secure the barrier membrane and tiling body thereto;
• an adhesive applied to the surface to secure the plurality of tiling assemblies
• wherein each tiling assembly is applied to the surface so as to overlie the tiling body on an adjacent barrier membrane with a gap distance therebetween;
• and
• a grout material adapted to be applied between the gap distance between adjacent tiling materials.

A method of covering a surface with tiles comprising:

• providing a plurality tiling assemblies, each tiling assembly comprising:
• a tiling body having a front surface, a back surface, a depth between the front and back surfaces and a peripheral edge extending around at least one edge of the tiling body to define a periphery thereof;
• a waterproof barrier membrane secured to the back surface of the tiling material, the membrane having a perimeter edge,
• wherein the perimeter edge of the barrier membrane extends beyond at least one side of the peripheral edge of the tiling body by an overlap distance, and
• wherein the membrane is adherable to a tiling adhesive applied to the wall surface to secure the barrier membrane and tiling body thereto;
• securing a first tiling assembly to the surface with an adhesive with the barrier membrane extending along the surface away from the tiling material;
• applying a subsequent tiling assembly to the surface with the tiling body of the subsequent tiling assembly overlying the barrier membrane of the first tiling assembly so as to form a gap distance between the first and subsequent tiling materials;
• and
• applying a quantity of a grout material to the gap distance.
