Cross-laminated timber (CLT) panel structures are provided. A CLT panel structure can include a core layer, a first wooden surface layer connected to a first surface of the core layer, and a second wooden surface layer connected to a second surface of the core layer. The core layer can include a plurality of hollow wooden bodies. Each hollow wooden body can define a cavity. Each hollow wooden body can be positioned adjacent to at least one other hollow wooden body of the plurality of hollow wooden bodies. Each cavity defined by the plurality of hollow wooden bodies can be configured to receive a mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) service, and/or other materials, such as filler materials for enhancing panel insulation, acoustic, and/or ballistic characteristics. CLT panel structure assemblies and methods for constructing CLT panel structures are also provided.
