System method and device for structural improvement with micropiles

A method of reinforcing a structure, comprising:

• forming a first opening through a concrete member of the structure, wherein the opening comprises a sidewall and an opening diameter extending from opposing sides of the sidewall, wherein the opening diameter comprises a distance in a range of 1-3 inches;
• inserting a first sleeve within the first opening, the first sleeve comprising an outer surface comprising an outer diameter and an inner surface comprising an inner diameter, wherein:
• the outer surface comprises first outer threading comprising a first height and second outer threading comprising a second height,
• the inner surface comprises inner threading formed with an inner thread recess offset from the inner surface, and
• the first sleeve is threadedly coupled to the sidewall of the first opening of the concrete member;
• providing a first micropile comprising a hollow interior, a sacrificial tip, and pile threading on an outer surface;
• coupling the first micropile to the first sleeve with the pile threading on the outer surface of the first micropile mateably coupled with the inner threading of the first sleeve;
• advancing a first end of the first micropile to a point of refusal in soil below the first opening;
• retreating the first end of the micropile to form a void in the soil and moving the sacrificial tip to expose the hollow interior of the micropile;
• passing cement grout through the hollow interior of the micropile into the void in the soil;
• and
• torquing the micropile after the cement grout has hardened to exert an upward force against the concrete member.

A method of reinforcing a structure, comprising:

• forming an opening through a concrete member of the structure;
• inserting a sleeve within the opening, the sleeve comprising an outer surface threadedly coupled with the concrete member;
• coupling a micropile to a threaded inner surface of the sleeve, the micropile comprising an outer threaded surface sized to couple with the threaded inner surface of the micropile, the micropile further comprising a maximum diameter in a range of 0.5-3 inches, wherein the micropile comprises a hollow interior and a sacrificial tip;
• advancing a first end of the micropile to a point of refusal in soil below the first opening;
• retreating the first end of the micropile to form a void in the soil and moving the sacrificial tip to expose the hollow interior of the micropile;
• passing cement grout through the hollow interior of the micropile into the void in the soil;
• and
• torquing the micropile after the cement grout has hardened to exert an upward force against the concrete member.

A method of reinforcing a structure, comprising:

• forming an opening through a concrete member of the structure;
• inserting a sleeve within the opening, the sleeve coupled with the concrete member;
• coupling a micropile to a threaded inner surface of the sleeve, the micropile comprising an outer threaded surface sized to couple with the threaded inner surface of the micropile;
• and
• advancing a first end of the micropile to a point of refusal in soil below the first opening.
