Vehicle arresting system

A vehicle arresting system for controlling oncoming traffic on a roadway, first and second vertically extending support structures being disposed on a given portion of the roadway, the second support structure being spaced from the first support structure, the system comprising:

• a vehicle arresting barrier assembly configured for arresting motion of an impacting vehicle, the vehicle arresting barrier assembly comprising:
• a barrier configured for spanning the given portion of the roadway between the first and the second support structures to inform oncoming traffic that the given portion of the roadway is closed, the barrier is vertically movable between a deployed position in which the barrier extends into the given portion of the roadway to inform oncoming traffic that the given portion of the roadway is closed and a retracted position in which the barrier does not extend into the given portion of the roadway, the barrier comprising a net;
• a sag reduction element configured to counteract sagging of the barrier in the retracted position;
• a control system comprising an actuator configured to move the barrier between the deployed position and the retracted position;
• an attachment assembly configured to couple the barrier to the first and the second support structures;
• and
• at least one energy absorption device configured to be coupled to the barrier and configured for absorbing impact energy from the impacting vehicle so as to arrest motion of the impacting vehicle.

A vehicle arresting system for controlling oncoming traffic on a roadway, first and second vertically extending support structures being disposed on a given portion of the roadway, the second support structure being spaced from the first support structure, the system comprising:

• a vehicle arresting barrier assembly configured for arresting motion of an impacting vehicle, the vehicle arresting barrier assembly comprising:
• a barrier configured for spanning the given portion of the roadway between the first and the second support structures to inform oncoming traffic that the given portion of the roadway is closed, the barrier is vertically movable between a deployed position in which the barrier extends into the given portion of the roadway to inform oncoming traffic that the given portion of the roadway is closed and a retracted position in which the barrier does not extend into the given portion of the roadway, the barrier comprising a net;
• a control system comprising an actuator configured to move the barrier between the deployed position and the retracted position;
• a light source coupled to the net for increasing visibility of the barrier and a power source configured to provide power to the light source;
• at least one energy absorption device configured to be coupled to the barrier and configured for absorbing impact energy from the impacting vehicle so as to arrest motion of the impacting vehicle;
• and
• an attachment assembly configured to couple the at least one energy absorption device to the barrier.

A vehicle arresting system for controlling oncoming traffic on a roadway, first and second vertically extending support structures being disposed on a given portion of the roadway, the second support structure being spaced from the first support structure, the system comprising:

• a vehicle arresting barrier assembly configured for arresting motion of an impacting vehicle, wherein the vehicle arresting barrier assembly is MASH crash-tested, the vehicle arresting barrier assembly comprising:
• a barrier configured for spanning the given portion of the roadway between the first and the second support structures to inform oncoming traffic that the given portion of the roadway is closed, wherein the barrier includes a net comprising a plurality of longitudinal net elements spaced from one another in a vertical direction;
• at least one energy absorption device configured to be coupled to the barrier and configured for absorbing impact energy from the impacting vehicle so as to arrest motion of the impacting vehicle;
• and
• an attachment assembly configured to couple the barrier to the at least one energy absorption device, the plurality of longitudinal net elements being coupled to the net, the attachment assembly comprising a net adjustor for adjusting one or more of the longitudinal net elements during impact.

A vehicle arresting system for controlling oncoming traffic on a roadway, the system comprising:

• first and second vertically extending support structures disposed on a given portion of the roadway, the second support structure being spaced from the first support structure;
• and
• a vehicle arresting barrier assembly configured for arresting motion of an impacting vehicle, the vehicle arresting barrier assembly comprising:
• a barrier configured for spanning the given portion of the roadway between the first and the second support structures to inform oncoming traffic that the given portion of the roadway is closed, wherein the barrier includes a net comprising a plurality of longitudinal net elements spaced from one another in a vertical direction;
• at least one energy absorption device configured to be coupled to the barrier and configured for absorbing impact energy from the impacting vehicle so as to arrest motion of the impacting vehicle;
• and
• an attachment assembly configured to couple the energy absorption device to the barrier, the attachment assembly including a plate assembly comprising a pair of pivotably connected plates, wherein a first set of longitudinal net elements is configured to be coupled to a first plate and a second set of longitudinal net elements is configured to be coupled to a second plate.
