Abstract
In one aspect, the disclosure relates to coatings for carbon nanotube (CNT) wires or cables, the coatings including at least one conductive polymer and, optionally, a bromine dopant. Also disclosed are composite wires or cables comprising CNTs and the disclosed coatings and methods of making the composite wires or cables. This abstract is intended as a scanning tool for purposes of searching in the particular art and is not intended to be limiting of the present disclosure.
Claims20
A coating for a carbon nanotube (CNT) wire, yarn, or cable, the coating comprising at least one conductive polymer and, optionally, a halogen dopant.
A process for preparing a composite wire, yarn, or cable, the process comprising:
- (a) contacting a carbon nanotube (CNT) wire, yarn, or cable with at least one electrode and an electrolyte bath, wherein the electrolyte bath comprises a monomer;
- and
- (b) subjecting the CNT wire, yarn, or cable, the at least one electrode, and the electrolyte bath to a current;
- wherein the current causes the monomer to polymerize into a conductive polymer coating on at least one surface of the CNT wire, yarn, or cable;
- wherein the composite wire, yarn, or cable comprises a high temperature superconductor/CNT composite wire, yarn, or cable or a CNT fiber-yarn conductive polymer composite.
