Methods for forming films of aligned carbon nanotubes, films formed by the methods, and electronic devices that incorporate the films are provided. The films are formed by flowing a suspension of organic material-coated carbon nanotubes through a channel across which an electric field is applied. The electric field creates an attractive force between the organic material-coated carbon nanotubes and the floor of the channel, which provides a deposition substrate for the carbon nanotube film. The surface of the channel's deposition substrate is coated with a coating that repels the organic material-coated carbon nanotubes. Under the influence of the attractive and repulsive forces, the carbon nanotubes from the flowing suspension are deposited on the repulsive coating on the deposition substrate to form a carbon nanotube film in which the carbon nanotubes are aligned along the flow direction.
