A method comprising controlling a laser source and an electrical power source per an operating sequence. The operating sequence comprises several phases, in each: the laser source generates an excitation pulse directed at a target to excite an arc discharge at the target, the power source generates a first electrical power pulse to electrically power the arc discharge, and/or the power source generates a second electrical power pulse is generated by the power source to accelerate a material flow released from the target by the arc discharge away from the target. The plurality of phases comprise: one or more than one first phase, in each first phase of which the first power pulse and/or the second power pulse are generated per excitation pulse, and a second phase in which two excitation pulses and/or two first electrical power pulses are generated per second electrical power pulse.
