Abstract
The present invention relates to a treatment method for the degradation of the glycogen present in a biomass of unicellular red algae (URA), particularly of the genus Galdieria, and to the product thus obtained.
Claims17
A method for treating a biomass of unicellular red algae (URA) of the genus Galdieria, said URA biomass treatment method comprising the steps of:
- a) harvesting of biomass by separating the culture medium to obtain a raw biomass of URA,
- b) cell lysis of the crude biomass from step (a) to obtain a lysate;
- c) optional dilution of the lysate from step (b) to obtain a solubilizate;
- and,
- d) separation of insolubles suspended in the lysate from step (b) or the solubilizate from step (c) to obtain a clarified fraction, further comprising a step of glycogen degradation in which the raw biomass and/or lysate and/or if applicable solubilizate is kept at rest (step of rest) for at least 3 hours, during which the liquid medium comprising glycogen is at acidic pH.
