Abstract

The present invention relates to a process for dehydrating a hexose-containing feedstock, said process comprising the steps of: preparing a catalyst by contacting a zeolite containing a series of channels in which the opening is greater than or equal to 10 oxygen atoms (10 MR) and having an Si/Al ratio of at least 10 with a solution comprising an organic compound of formula: R1, R2, R3, and R4 being independently selected from linear, branched or cyclic alkyl groups of 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and X− being the hydroxide ion OH−; contacting said dehydration catalyst with said hexose-containing feedstock in at least one solvent, said contacting being carried out at a temperature of between 3° and 160° C. and at a pressure of between 0.0001 and 8.0 MPa.
