Abstract
A boom lift machine is provided which includes: a body; a boom defining a longitudinal axis (A-A); a mounting arrangement mounting the boom to the body; and a lifting unit extending between the boom and the mounting arrangement. The boom is pivotably connected to the mounting arrangement at or proximate a first end of the boom. The mounting arrangement is configured such that in response to actuation of the lifting unit, the boom is pivoted to raise or lower a second end thereof, and the boom is translated relative to the body. The boom lift machine also includes a counterweight mass configured to counterbalance a tipping moment of the boom lift machine. The counterweight mass is configured to translate with the boom.
Claims17
A boom lift machine comprising:
- a body;
- a boom defining a longitudinal axis;
- a mounting arrangement mounting the boom to the body;
- and
- a lifting unit extending between the boom and the mounting arrangement,
- wherein the boom is pivotably connected to the mounting arrangement at or proximate a first end of the boom,
- wherein the mounting arrangement is configured such that in response to actuation of the lifting unit, the boom is pivoted to raise or lower a second end thereof, and the boom is translated relative to the body,
- the boom lift machine further comprising a counterweight mass configured to counterbalance a tipping moment of the boom lift machine,
- wherein the counterweight mass is configured to translate with the boom,
- wherein the mounting arrangement forms part of a four bar linkage including:
- a first arm extending from a first pivot connected to the body to a second pivot connected to the boom;
- and
- a second arm extending from a third pivot connected to the body to a fourth pivot connected to the boom,
- wherein the first pivot is spaced from the third pivot and the second pivot is axially spaced from the fourth pivot along the boom,
- wherein the first pivot is spaced from the third pivot in the direction of a longitudinal axis of the body, and
- wherein the counterweight mass comprises a weight mounted to the boom at or proximate the first end thereof and pivotable about a pivot axis about which the boom is pivotably connected to the mounting arrangement.
