Abstract
An extendable boom for a lift vehicle and a method of operating the same. The extendable boom includes a lower boom that operably engages with the lift vehicle, an upper boom that slidably engages with and is housed inside of the lower boom, and a locking cylinder that is nested inside of the upper boom and is configured to transition the upper boom between an operating position and a stored position relative to the lower boom. In operation, the locking cylinder is configured to lock the upper boom to the stored position when the locking cylinder is free from being under load.
Claims20
An extendable boom for a lift vehicle, comprising:
- a lower boom operably engaged with the lift vehicle;
- an upper boom slidably engaged with and housed inside of the lower boom;
- and
- a locking cylinder nested inside of the upper boom configured to transition the upper boom between an operating position and a stored position relative to the lower boom;
- wherein the locking cylinder is configured to lock the upper boom to the stored position when the locking cylinder is free from being under load.
A method of operating an extendable boom for a lift vehicle, comprising:
- removing a load from a locking cylinder of the extendable boom;
- transitioning an upper boom of the extendable boom from an extended position to a retracted position relative to a lower boom of the extendable boom by the locking cylinder, wherein the locking cylinder is seated inside of the upper boom;
- locking the upper boom with the lower boom when the locking cylinder is free from being under load.
