Abstract
A paper transport apparatus includes an abutting portion against which a leading end of paper being transported is abutted and that corrects a slant of the paper, a drive unit that includes a motor which reciprocates the abutting portion between a standby position where the abutting portion waits for the paper and a retreated position where the abutting portion is retreated from a transport path on a downstream side of the standby position in a transport direction, and a release mechanism that releases transmission of a drive force from the motor to the abutting portion during movement of the abutting portion to the standby position.

A paper transport apparatus comprising:
- an abutting portion against which a leading end of paper being transported is abutted and that corrects a slant of the paper;
- a drive unit that includes a motor which reciprocates the abutting portion between a standby position where the abutting portion waits for the paper and a retreated position where the abutting portion is retreated from a transport path on a downstream side of the standby position in a transport direction;
- and
- a release mechanism that releases transmission of a drive force from the motor to the abutting portion during movement of the abutting portion to the standby position.
