System and method for sharing load between two or more independent engines

A method comprising:

• determining, via a load sharing management operation of a controller, and based on one or more factors, a target steady state load share for an associated one of a thermal engine or an electric motor system of a hybrid electric powertrain (HEP), the thermal engine and the electric motor system each having a mechanical output coupled to a common power shaft of the HEP;
• operating, by the controller, the associated one of the thermal engine or the electric motor system according to the target steady state load share;
• determining, by the controller, that a measured load for the associated one of the thermal engine or the electric motor system does not meet the target steady state load share;
• and
• adjusting, by the controller, and based on the target steady state load share, a control setting of the associated one of the thermal engine or the electric motor system, resulting in an adjusted load output of the associated one of the thermal engine or the electric motor system.
