Vehicle seat restraint control module discovery on a communication bus and control

A restraint control method for a vehicle, comprising:

• by a control module of a seat of the vehicle, selectively actuating restraints of the seat;
• and
• by a module separate from the control module, in response to the control module of the seat receiving power and being connected to a communication bus:
• receiving a unique identifier from the control module of the seat via a request message on the communication bus;
• determining whether the unique identifier is associated with a bus identifier in memory;
• when the unique identifier is associated with the bus identifier in memory of the module, transmitting on the communication bus an acknowledgement message including (a) the unique identifier and (b) the bus identifier associated with the unique identifier;
• and
• when the unique identifier is not associated with any bus identifier in the memory:
• associating, in the memory, a unique bus identifier not already in the memory with the unique identifier;
• and
• transmitting on the communication bus the acknowledgement message including (a) the unique identifier and (b) the bus identifier associated with the unique identifier.
