Abstract

A thermal management system for a vehicle, the thermal management system including: a first heat exchanger disposed in a HVAC system of the vehicle, where the first heat exchanger is an ambient heat exchanger with an air side in thermal communication with an external environment of the vehicle; and a second heat exchanger disposed in the HVAC system of the vehicle downstream of the first heat exchanger and adapted to receive an air flow through or around the first heat exchanger, where the second heat exchanger is adapted to function as either a heater or a cooler for a cabin of the vehicle responsive to an operating condition or environment of the vehicle. The thermal management system includes no additional heat exchangers disposed in the HVAC system or a coolant module of the vehicle aside from the first heat exchanger and the second heat exchanger.
