A card body (CB) for a wooden transaction card (WTC) having a stack-up of a plurality (n) of wooden (veneer) layers (WL) bonded together using a plurality (n−1) of reinforcement layers (RL) comprising adhesive (AL) coated onto a substrate material (SL) such as fleece or paper disposed between the wooden layers. The wooden layers are pre-pressed to reduce their thickness, and the resulting stack-up of wooden layers and reinforcement layers is laminated to form a card body subassembly (CBS). Exterior surfaces of outer wooden layers may be sanded back so that the card body is ISO thickness compliant, and may be coated with a laser-engravable waterproofing resin (TC). A booster antenna (BA) or a coupling frame (CF) may be integrated into a core subassembly (CS) of the card body. The card may have a front face continuous metal layer (CML) with a ferrite or non-ferrite backer.
